Matt Woods
18 Sep 2010 - 9:00 PMMatt Woods returns for an encore after one of the summer’s most enjoyable shows. Performing Songwriter says of Woods, “It’s only a matter of time before singer-songwriter Matt Woods finds wider recognition. His second album offers the immediacy and accessibility that major labels generally latch onto. On songs like “My Way,” “Flight to California” and “Lonely Ones,” Woods wades through one emotional tempest after another, garnering powerful, affecting performances that resonate even on first hearing.
Woods matches his commanding vocals with an ace backing band in Plan A. Together they provide the riveting, rock-solid arrangements these tunes call for—whether turning up the heat for a searing rocker or adding just the right touch of nuance to one of Woods’ searing, sad-eyed ballads. It’s that balance between frenzy and finesse that gives these rugged, restless narratives an unequivocal sense of determination and purpose.”
Anne McCue
23 Sep 2010 - 9:00 PM“Anne McCue is the virtual definition of triple threat. A potent singer, thoughtful songwriter and tough guitarist.”
–Billboard
“Australian singer/songwriter/guitarist Anne McCue wields potent bluesy rock against her unaffected, naturally wistful voice.”
–Rolling Stone
“Besides having a bluesy voice and songs to match (’50 Dollar Whore,’ ‘Ballad of an Outlaw Woman’), McCue is an accomplished guitarist who can handle Delta blues and fat feedback as well as quieter folk stylings. Not only does she dare to cover Hendrix’s ‘Machine Gun,’ but her nine-minute version, tucked away as a hidden track at the end of her new album, Roll, also does righteous justice to the revered guitar god’s memory.”
–Washington Post

The New Familiars
25 Sep 2010 - 9:00 PM“A living breathing nod to the country side of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.”
-Yes Weekly
For years now, North Carolina’s The New Familiars have been touring & playing their own style of American Rock & Roll wherever and whenever they can. Drawing from the vast influences that they’ve collected throughout their collective careers, this quartet has shaped a sound that combines the nitty-gritty roots music of the Appalachia with guitar-drenched-drum-driven anthems of Rock & Roll. Through collective songwriting, howling harmonies, & multi-instrumental talent, their show can take you from a back porch hoe-down to a full on rock show at the change of an instrument.

Kelly and the Cowboys
16 Oct 2010 - 9:00 PM“The Mount Airy Country Quartet, fronted by the “can’t possibly sound anymore country” crooner Kelley Breiding, play that old-time American music–the Patsy Cline, Hank Sr. kind– at honky-tonks and break-up parties. Their originals are intermingled with obscure and classic country covers, gathering western swing, blues and Rockabilly along the way, and making even the tin rafters of honky-tonks sing along.” Creative Loafing, Dec. 2007-Charlotte
Bloodroot's Barter
30 Oct 2010 - 9:00 PMThe Bloodroots Barter is a new band that began playing together in southeastern Kentucky. The four members, hailing from Oregon, northern California, Kentucky, and Texas, play guitar, fiddle, mandolin, tenor banjo, doghouse bass, and accordion. Although The Bloodroots Barter plays traditional tunes like “Banjo Pickin’ Girl, “Greenback Dollars,” and “Wayfaring Stranger,” with influences ranging from Coon Creek Girls, Woody Guthrie, Charlie Pool, and Butch Hancock to Tom Waits, Devil Makes Three, and Jolie Holland, the band can’t be accurately categorized solely as bluegrass–it is part of a distinct, unnamed genre that seems to be emerging in contemporary roots music, as bands like Avett Brothers, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Old Crow Medicine Show, and The Travelin’ Snakes capture the imagination of both old-time music aficionados and mainstream audiences alike.
The Only Sons
6 Nov 2010 - 9:00 PMMurfreesboro, TN country rockers return to charm Summit City!
“I’ll tell you this; The Only Sons have some serious chops. The music is a bluesy exploration of alt-country music driven by Kent Goolsby’s kick-ass slow, dark growl…Much like Glossary’s Joey Kneiser, Kent Goolsby of The Only Sons is a comically underrated songwriter.”
-Front Porch Musings
The Steepwater Band
13 Nov 2010 - 9:00 PMIf Janis Joplin and Ronnie Van Zant were booking a band to play on a serene summer night and the Allman Brothers were unavailable, it would without question be The Steepwater Band.
~ Mack Rawden | Cinema Blend Music
Jeff Massey’s dirty sounding, masterful slide work reminded me of Exile On Main Street era Stones. The band’s sound is firmly entrenched in the roots of the blues; however they also up the ante by throwing tinges of psychedelia and country into the mix and the sound is absolutely massive and in your face at all times.
